ARMADALE TOWN CENTRE MUST HAVE MORE SECURITY

Armadale MLA Dr Tony Buti continues to call for increased security in the Jull
Street Mall after a fight on Sunday where a 29 year old man was stabbed in
the back.

Dr Buti is the chair of the Jull Street Group which was formed over 4 years
ago by traders concerned at the effects of anti-social behaviour on their
businesses.

“We have been working for 4 years to get increased police patrols at the
bottom end of the Mall.” Dr Buti said.

“If there are any police patrols in the Mall they are not visible and therefore
inadequate.”

Dr Buti said, “Armadale is a beautiful town with some excellent facilities and
shopping options – it is one of the best geographically situated cities in
Western Australia and is the hub of social activity and shopping for residents.”
“Patrons are staying away from the lower part of Jull Street and business is
being stifled because of anti-social behaviour and lack of security.”

“Armadale residents want to shop and relax close to home – better security
will encourage business owners to invest in the area and locals will get a
wider choice of venues,” he said.

“The Jull Street Group wrote to the City of Armadale seeking assistance to
engage a security service but the City refused to contribute to the cost.”

”We felt that a high visibility security patrol would act as a calming influence in
the Mall and would encourage the anti-social element to move on,” he said.

“We have to get behind our local businesses and help them bring a positive
vibe to that end of town and attract families back into Armadale.”
