Crime Rate Spike

ARMADALE CRIME RATE SPIKE. POLICE LET DOWN BY A GOVERNMENT
THAT REFUSES TO PROVIDE ADEQUATE RESOURCING

Armadale MLA, Dr Tony Buti is angry that his previous pleas for better police
resources and a 24/7 public access police station for Armadale have been
consistently ignored by the Minister for Police.

“Armadale Police do a great job in the circumstances but they must have more
support from the Minister for Police and the Police Commissioner.”

Dr Buti said, “I have raised this issue many times before and each time have been
told by the Minister that all is well. Clearly it is not.”

“The result of this indifference is a surge in the crime rate in Armadale.”

“The South East Metro police district has only one 24/7 public access police
station. All other police districts in the metropolitan area have two.”

“For over two and a half years we have been hearing how great the Frontline 2020
policing model was, but with the crime rate now at a record high there is finally an
admission from the Minister for Police that it does not work.”

In 2014 Dr Buti said, “This cut-price policing puts a terrible strain on the police and
their ability to respond adequately to crime. In the end it is local residents who will
pay the price.”

“I take no pleasure in the fact that my prediction has proved correct,” he said.
“Frontline 2020 saw the closure of special police domestic violence services – this
was a huge mistake and I have said so many times.”

“Now at last, the Minister for Police and the Commissioner have recognized this
mistake and have promised that domestic violence will be responded to urgently in
the future,” Dr Buti said.

“I sincerely hope this happens - it would be very disappointing if this promise, like
so many before it, was not kept.”
